They need the blackened caulk cut out and redone, the grout ground back and repacked, the two cracked tiles replaced, and a grab bar set into the studs. One visit, nothing torn out, no permit.

Plain Answers
Should I regrout or retile?
If the tile is solid and only the grout is cracked, stained, or missing, regrouting brings the surface back for a fraction of a retile and with nothing demolished. If tiles are loose across a whole wall, the board behind them has gone soft, or water has been getting behind the tile for years, that is a retile, which is a remodel, and we do not do those. We will tell you straight so you can bring in a bath contractor.
Why does my caulk go black every year?
Latex caulk, a bathroom that never dries out (common in the humid Bayshore summers), or new caulk smeared over the old instead of cut out first. We remove all of it, treat the joint, and use 100% silicone made for wet areas. It holds for years instead of months.
Can grab bars go into a tiled shower wall?
Yes. We find the studs behind the tile, drill through with the right bit, and anchor into framing. When the bar has to land where there is no stud, we use anchors engineered for grab bars, not drywall anchors.
Will you swap the faucet and toilet while you are there?
Yes, like-for-like: a faucet for a faucet, a toilet on the same flange, a vanity where the supply and drain stay put. NJ code treats that as ordinary maintenance, no permit. Anything that moves or adds plumbing belongs to a licensed plumber, and we will tell you before you buy the parts.
