A standard interior door replacement takes 2–4 hours. An exterior door with new hardware, weatherstripping, and adjustment to the frame typically takes 4–6 hours. We can usually complete 2–3 door installations in a single day, making it efficient to upgrade multiple doors at once.

Replacing a door in its existing opening generally doesn't require a permit in New Jersey. However, if you're widening a doorway, changing the opening size, or making structural modifications to the surrounding wall, a permit may be required. We'll let you know during the estimate if your specific project needs one.

Doors stick and misalign for several reasons: seasonal wood expansion, settling of the house foundation, worn hinges, or a warped frame. In NJ's humid summers and cold winters, this is especially common. We diagnose the root cause first. Often a simple hinge adjustment or minor planing fixes the problem without needing a full replacement.

For NJ's climate (humid summers, cold winters, and frequent rain) we generally recommend fiberglass or steel exterior doors over wood. Fiberglass doesn't warp, rot, or require painting, and modern versions are virtually indistinguishable from real wood. Steel doors offer excellent security and insulation.
